Johnny, Susan, Reed, and Ben are just one big, happy, dysfunctional family…with superpowers. The Fantastic Four are dynamic crime-fighters attempting to come to terms with the event that began their story. While conducting a scientific mission in space, the four were exposed to cosmic rays that resulted in very different effects among them. Johnny Storm becomes the Human Torch, able to fly and generate fire. His wife, Susan Storm, becomes the Invisible Woman, able to disappear. Her brother, Reed Richards, the expedition’s leader, becomes Mister Fantastic, able to stretch his body and blaming himself for college roommate Ben Grimm’s transformation into The Thing, a being of superhuman strength thanks to his stone-like flesh. Though their personalities may clash dysfunctionally and they are sometimes unable to forgive each other for past wrongs, this super foursome comes together as a team in times of crisis to use their abilities for the good of society. Orli says, “This great, cosmic occurrence altered their lives forever, but beneath their powers, they’re still the same people with the same personalities. Even though this causes tension among the group, one of the reasons why they’re real heroes is because they’re also really human. I think that’s a quality every hero shares.”

As a bona fide comic book enthusiast, Orli celebrates the Marvel Comics multiverse, including the art and times of Stan Lee and his colleagues Jack Kirby, Len Wein, and Chris Claremont. Drawing inspiration from the flawed and conflicted heroes emerging and reemerging during the Silver and Bronze Ages, this collection capitalizes on the decisive colors, bold lines, and action-packed symbolic resonance of the genre.
